DESCRIPTION:Join BBOWT to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the reopening of Greenham & Crookham Commons! \nThe Commons have a rich history\, once the site of a military air base that stored nuclear cruise missiles during the Cold War. This led to demonstrations by the famous Greenham Women movement in 1981. Greenham Common’s airfield was reopened to the public on 8 April 2000 after decades of military occupation. Join BBOWT\, 25 years later\, to acknowledge this landmark anniversary. \nThere is an exciting programme of events and activities for everyone to get involved in – from family trails and talks\, to pond-dipping and guided walks! DESCRIPTION:Lakenheath Alliance for Peace’s next Peace Camp at RAF Lakenheath will be Monday 14th April to Friday 25th April 2025. \nMonday 14th April\n3pm – Set up of 24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent \nOpening Ceremony at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nTuesday 15th April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nLeafleting in Lakenheath village. \nWednesday 16th April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nPolitical and Protest Choirs and Singers Day – Choirs\, singers and folk bands will gather at the base to sing out nukes\, militarisation and climate chaos. More information here. \nThursday 17th April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nGreenham Women’s Day – Women who protested at Greenham in the 1980’s are now protesting at the return of US nukes to Lakenheath. \nWe will leaflet in local villages and then decorate the fence..with whatever women would like to bring and we will be making and bringing cut out women holding hands to put onto fence as far as we can! Embrace the Base!!!  We will be holding a space to talk to each other and share thoughts\, ideas and feelings etc.  \nEvent at Brandon Market – with choirs\, stall\, street theatre and leafleting \nFriday 18th April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nClimate Day – Morning workshop: ‘Peace and Climate Change’. How the military need for and control of fossil fuels have shaped our world. How will climate change increase the risk of conflict over resources such as food and water. What can we do about it – learn\, discuss and plan for our future. \nIn the afternoon we will be at the main gate of the base. \nSaturday 19th April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nSunday 20th April – Easter Sunday\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath.\nEaster plane spotting around USAF Lakenheath. \nMonday 21st April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nWar Crimes and Genocide Day – Solidarity groups will gather to protest at Lakenheath involvement in war crimes being committed by US/UK/NATO forces and its military support enabling Israel to commit Genocide in Gaza. \n\n10am–12noon – briefing and practice for those participating in the ‘Death March’ at the campsite. \n2pm–3.30pm – Death March – including baby shrouds ceremony along the fence leading to Lakenheath Main Gate. Ending with the hanging of the baby clothes on the fence and any placards and banners. \n3.30–4.30pm – speeches at the Main Gate. Angie Zelter; Dr Mariam Karimi; Carolyn Gelenter; Mujahid Islam; Mike Layward \n4:30–5pm – Junayd – poetry performance at the Main Gate. \n5–5.15pm – Camilla – Special Relationship with Genocide – song \n\nTuesday 22nd April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nDemocracy Day – MPs\, Councillors\, and other political representatives will speak out against nuclear weapons\, giving interviews and showing their solidarity with LAP. \nWednesday 23rd April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nFaith Day – Leaders of different faith communities will come together to vigil\, pray and conduct a multi-faith service at the gates of Lakenheath \nThursday 24th April\n24/7 Vigil\, Welcome Tent at the main gate of USAF Lakenheath. \nInternational Peace Conference – Local\, national and international speakers and participants will challenge US militarism and the drive to never ending wars\, the build up of US controlled NATO bases in Europe and how these impact on environment\, and people. SUMMARY:Lakenheath Alliance For Peace – Monthly Vigil
DESCRIPTION:It is important to keep our peace space by the main gate at USAF Lakenheath active. The Lakenheath Alliance for Peace will therefore be organizing monthly vigils. \nThis is a lot to take on\, so the Lakenheath Alliance for Peace hope other groups will take the opportunity to join some of these vigils\, using their time to look around the base\, familiarize themselves with the layout of the base to ready themselves for future actions and perhaps to leaflet the surrounding villages and towns. \nThese will be at the main gate of RAF Lakenheath between 12noon and 2pm on the last Saturday of every month. \nContact vigils@lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk for more information. \nA leaflet for the vigils can be downloaded here.
