SUMMARY:International Peace Camp 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join Lakenheath Alliance for Peace for the International Peace Camp – a peaceful resistance to nuclear weapons\, militarisation and war. \nHere’s what LAP say about the event: \nAccommodation:  \nCamping – bring your own tent\, sleep in a marquee\, or on the floor of the hall. £5 – £10 a night. \nIn a bed – book into the local Travelodge at Barton Mills\, find a local bnb\, or locate local residents offering a bed for the night. \nCatering:  We will be providing vegan meals with gluten-free options. Donations will be collected at mealtimes. \nTransport: A shuttle bus service will give lifts to and from the nearest stations\, the base\, the viewing area\, and the village hall. Volunteers with their own cars will also provide lifts. \nWorkshops: there will be workshops and training at the maingate during the day\, and in the evenings at the village hall. \nNVDA training: training for nonviolent direct action needs to happen before the camp\, rather than during it\, so that affinity groups can get together and are well prepared in advance. Please contact us if you are interested. \nBanner-making and artwork: We will be collecting and encouraging creative people to get creative again! \nMusic and singing: the more the better! We are considering another choir day… \nWellbeing: a wellbeing space will be available at the base and at the hall. \nActions: being there is a vital action in itself\, and allsorts of other actions are needed too\, big and small\, to raise the profile and get much needed publicity. A means of communicating about the actions you want to take will be provided. Please contact actions@lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk \nFund-raising: All this costs money\, and while grant applications are being made\, donations are still needed. Please encourage your peace / justice organisations to donate on the LAP website…. £30  from 60+ LAP alliance organisations would make a big difference! \nSign up here!

SUMMARY:Gentle\, Angry Women - Cornwall Premiere
DESCRIPTION:Gentle\, Angry Women\, a film by Barbara Santi that was filmed during our 40th Anniversary recreation March from Cardiff to Greenham\, will be premiered in Newlyn Filmhouse on the 26th September. \nA new generation of young female activists awakens to a powerful\, forgotten chapter of women’s history. As they navigate the complexities of teenage life and social activism\, three young women – Poppy (16)\, Xanthe (17)\, and Evie (19) – discover the remarkable Greenham Common Women’s Peace Movement. The groundbreaking protest saw 30\,000 women stand resolute against nuclear armament forty years earlier. \nTheir journey is an intimate intergenerational dialogue and a 110-mile march over nine days\, retracing the steps of the original Greenham Common protesters in 1981. These young women uncover not just a historical movement but a living\, breathing legacy of collective courage and resistance. \nGentle\, Angry Women is a poignant and timely documentary that weaves personal discovery\, historical remembrance and contemporary activism together. It confronts the rising global tensions of our time while celebrating the enduring power of women’s collective action – revealing a bridge between past courage and present hope. \nThe film will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director Barbara Santi to mark International Day for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons \nBook your tickets

SUMMARY:‘Kick out Trump’s nukes’ – national demonstration at RAF Lakenheath
DESCRIPTION:As part of the actions to condemn Trump’s “shameful” state visit\, join CND at Lakenheath to say loud and clear that neither he nor his nuclear bombs are welcome here! \n“Evidence is clear that US nuclear weapons have arrived in Britain – at the Lakenheath NATO base in Suffolk. These deadly weapons make us all a target. And they increase the risk of Britain being dragged into Trump’s reckless wars. \nThe majority of the population totally understand how these nuclear weapons don’t make us safer. That’s why a majority oppose their deployment here in Britain.” \nMore info here

SUMMARY:Peace building in a world of conflict
DESCRIPTION:“Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me”.   \nThe Iona Community is committed through its Members to work for peace within our own communities and in the wider world. This is a challenging but all the more important time to be addressing such issues. During the week together on Iona they will\, with experienced peace builders\, explore what peace and security means in the local and wider context.   \nThey will hear about tried and tested peacebuilding theories\, strategies and initiatives in a variety of situations with speakers from the Fellowship of Reconciliation\, Rethinking Security\, Quaker peace work and Ulster University. This will give the opportunity to develop practical ideas which can then implement in our own circumstances and localities.  \nIn addition to input and discussion sessions\, workshops and creative opportunities the week will allow plenty of free time to explore the island.   \nMore info

SUMMARY:Don’t Bank on The Bomb – National Network Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Don’t Bank on the Bomb is a PAX project in conjunction with ICAN- the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. Join the first network meeting on Tuesday 25th February 2025 to hear from guests who will be speaking about their work on nuclear disarmament\, and the incredible organising that has happened on nuclear divestment.\n\nIn a world ablaze with escalating conflicts\, global instability\, and worsening humanitarian crises\, the threat of nuclear weapons to human life is mounting. And yet\, every year\, billions of pounds flow through UK banks\, pension funds\, and other financial institutions that invest in companies producing nuclear weapons\, making the threat of nuclear war even more real. \nAt Don’t Bank on the Bomb UK\, we are building a nationwide movement to pressure banks and financial institutions to withdraw their support for the nuclear weapons industry\, by demanding they move their money away from companies that manufacture and trade in weapons of mass destruction. \nWhether you’re an experienced activist or just learning about the issue\, Don’t Bank on the Bomb UK is the perfect place to join others committed to building a safer\, nuclear-free world. \nRSVP online here

SUMMARY:Temporary Exhibition | What does peace mean to you?
DESCRIPTION:For the Peace Museum‘s first temporary exhibition\, they have been working with artist Lakhbir Sangha to create a series of four artworks inspired by the question: What does peace mean to you? Since opening in August\, the first two artworks in this series have been on display. \nThe first is an interactive artwork which invites visitors to share their responses to what peace means to them. These answers have been written onto fabric scrolls and placed within a 3-D resin outline of the Bradford district for other visitors to read. \nThe second artwork ‘Going Green’ is a hand-knitted dress sculpture inspired by our relationship with nature. The work aims to provide a commentary on the complex relationship between us and our planet\, along with the social and cultural aspects of climate change. It highlights the pressing need to consider and respond to the ongoing eco-crisis and safeguard future generations. \nFrom Thursday 5th December\, visitors will be able to see the final two new artworks that Lakhbir has been working on over the last few months. These artworks will both be inspired by and a response to visitors’ answers to the question: What does peace mean to you? \nThis exhibition will run into 2025.
