SUMMARY:Stop US nukes – national demonstration at Lakenheath
DESCRIPTION:CND is organising the next national demonstration at RAF Lakenheath in protest against US nuclear weapons returning to the base.\n\nSince April 2022\, there has been growing evidence that the US intends to use RAF Lakenheath as a major part of NATO’s nuclear weapons infrastructure in Europe. US budget documents show that the base’s weapons storage silos are being upgraded to store the new B61-12 guided nuclear bomb\, and new dormitory buildings are being built to house additional military personnel needed for any potential nuclear weapons mission. Washington also intends to double the amount of nuclear-capable F-35 aircraft it has stationed at Lakenheath to 54\, as part of efforts to increase its military presence in Europe. \nThey’ll be assembling from 12 noon outside the main gate with speakers including Melissa Parke\, ICAN’s Executive Director. They’ll also be (unofficially!) declaring Lakenheath a nuclear-free zone! \nMore info

SUMMARY:Alternatives to War in a Time of Global Crisis
DESCRIPTION:In this dangerous time for world peace\, Movement for the Abolition of War have organised a day conference in London for Saturday 14th September. \nHere’s what they say about the event: \nWe are lucky to have the use of a great little venue\, Sands Film Theatre in Rotherhithe\, which is a quirky jewel of a place\, and we have a great line-up of speakers – Paul Rogers\, John Gittings\, Diana Francis\, Jonathan Cohen\, Tanya Hubbard\, Gwen Burnyeat and Andrei Gomez-Suarez. For those who can’t get easily to London\, there will be online access to the main presentations. \nAt this critical moment in world affairs\, the conference should prove a timely occasion to consider alternatives. \nMore information on the event and speakers here.

In witness against this event there will be a pilgrimage for Peace\, beginning in Malvern where this arms fair was previously sited. \nInformation from the organisers: \nWe’re looking for walking pilgrims\, we welcome those walking multiple days or just a single day. SUMMARY:Women In Black International Online Conference

This session aims to open the discussion to participants from different places and perspectives and seek ways to work collectively to stop this war. \nLondon time 2-3.30 pm \nSession 15: Is Western pacifism colonialist? Facilitated by Eva Aneiros and Madrid Mujeres de Negro \nOur pacifism is crossed by the rest of our life circumstances\, also by our privileges. We would like to propose a debate on several questions that will allow us to analyse our way of being in pacifism\, each one from where she is\, in order to be able to build bridges with women in other situations and with other experiences in conditions of equality and mutual respect. To this end\, we want to generate a debate around the following questions: Is pacifism different in war zones than in situations of peace? \nFrom where do we make criticisms of wars? \nCan we think of examples of pacifist colonialism (or colonialist pacifism)? \nWhat defence strategies can we propose? \nLondon time: 4 – 5.30pm \nDAY 6: SUNDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER: \nSession 16: WiB Website \nIntroduced by Sian Jones with information and questions for WiBs from around the world. \nIn 2013\, Cynthia Cockburn started work with Ana Valdés\, Nadia Farou and other women to produce an amazing website\, which brings together Women in Black from Alaska to Australia. Now\, the website needs revitalising for new times. The current site isn’t nimble enough to keep up with ongoing events; it needs to be interactive and accessible to more women; it needs new energy and creativity to reflect who we are; new contributors\, new administrators …. and new funding. This workshop will gather your ideas\, suggestions and thoughts about the website and the way forward. So before we meet\, please have a good look round it. Here are some thoughts we want to explore\, you may have other ideas\, so bring them along. \nLondon time 12-1.30pm \nSession 17 Colombia – Women’s role in the peace process and the Women in Black conference in Colombia 2025 \nSpeakers Marina Gallego\, WiB/Ruta Pacifica National Coordinator\, and Clara Mazo. \nAn introduction to Ruta Pacifica in Colombia and its process of influencing peace\, both in the different negotiations in the country\, as well as the strategic actions carried out. I will present the strategy used by Ruta Pacifica to reach the negotiation table between the government and FARC\, which achieved the inclusion of women’s rights in the peace agenda\, recorded in the Final Peace Agreement. Our influence on the peace agreement and achievements for women and the country. \nLondon time: 2-3.30 pm \nCLOSING PLENARY: Women moving forward together for peace and justice – Facilitators Rebecca and Sue\, with Liz\, Sue and other WiB participants \nLondon time: 3.30 – 5.00 pm \nFor more information\, please visit the Women In Black website

SUMMARY:Schools Workshop: Berkshire
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to be introducing students from years I and II at a Berkshire school to the story of the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp on the 18th June. \nWe’ll be providing two 90 minute workshops for different year groups\, which will explore the lessons we can learn from Greenham Common Peace Camp and reflect on what the  changes are that we would like to see in the world today. \n\nCreate a safe space for students to build on their team work and trust as a group through drama games including role play and hot seating\, physical and weight bearing games\, and forum theatre exercises\nHighlight the history of the Greenham Common Peace Camps as the largest women’s led movement since suffrage\nAllow students a creative space to consider the issues that are important to them and the change they would like to see in the world\nEncourage students to appreciate the impact they have on their society\, culture and community and show them how their behaviours can create positive change and environments\nA craftivism exercise will allow students to work collaboratively on a creative manifesto which explores the causes that are important to students today and the changes they would like to see to support those causes\n\nWould you like something like this for your school? We have developed a range of workshops for primary and secondary schools which will start conversations about ways in which girls can access their personal and collective power\, and where boys can absorb non-violent ways of communication\, allowing them to go against the cultural norms\, learning to respect women and girls.
