SUMMARY:Schools Workshop: Berkshire
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to be introducing students from years I and II at a Berkshire school to the story of the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp on the 18th June. \nWe’ll be providing two 90 minute workshops for different year groups\, which will explore the lessons we can learn from Greenham Common Peace Camp and reflect on what the  changes are that we would like to see in the world today. \n\nCreate a safe space for students to build on their team work and trust as a group through drama games including role play and hot seating\, physical and weight bearing games\, and forum theatre exercises\nHighlight the history of the Greenham Common Peace Camps as the largest women’s led movement since suffrage\nAllow students a creative space to consider the issues that are important to them and the change they would like to see in the world\nEncourage students to appreciate the impact they have on their society\, culture and community and show them how their behaviours can create positive change and environments\nA craftivism exercise will allow students to work collaboratively on a creative manifesto which explores the causes that are important to students today and the changes they would like to see to support those causes\n\nWould you like something like this for your school? We have developed a range of workshops for primary and secondary schools which will start conversations about ways in which girls can access their personal and collective power\, and where boys can absorb non-violent ways of communication\, allowing them to go against the cultural norms\, learning to respect women and girls. SUMMARY:Common Ground: Book Talk and Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Thimblemill Library for an evening hearing all about life at the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp. Hear songs and stories that bring the camp to life as we reflect on the impact of the camp 40 years on. \nGreenham child and author Rebecca Mordan will introduce her book ‘Out of the Darkness: Greenham Voices 1981 – 2000’  sharing the impact her early experiences of the camp have had on her life. There will be chance for you to ask any questions during a Greenham Q&A. \nFollowing this there will be a screening of Carry Greenham Home as we transport you back to the early days of Greenham with Beeban Kidron and Amanda Richardson’s fly-on-the-wall masterpiece was shot whilst they lived at Greenham in 1982-83. \nAbout Common Ground \nCommon Ground is a series of events bringing the legacy of Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp to local communities across the UK. It is part of a project created by Scary Little Girls in collaboration with Greenham Women Everywhere CIC to map the impact of the Peace Camp on the women who inhabited it and the communities they returned to. This project has been made possible thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. \nAbout Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp \nGreenham Common Women’s Peace Camp was an enduring and iconic protest spanning 19 years from 1981 – 2000. Whilst the occupation of the common began with the aim of forcing out the US nuclear warheads from Berkshire\, the protest became a focal point of feminist history and has left a legacy of women’s liberation around the world. You can view our archive of oral histories\, photographs and ephemera from Greenham here. \nInclusion and Accessibility \nCommon Ground strives to be an inclusive and welcoming space which celebrates diversity in all its forms. Our approach is to learn from and value each other’s lived experience. \nThis venue is wheelchair accessible. \nIf you have any access needs you’d like to speak to us about please email us.
