We are absolutely DELIGHTED to share with you our BRAND NEW PODCAST – GREENHAM UNCOMMON!
On the 5th September 1981, 36 people arrived at Greenham Common, Berkshire, after marching from Cardiff in Wales, in protest at the siting of US nuclear missiles on this beautiful common land.
A decision was soon made to occupy the site with a women only camp. This was the beginning of 19 years of protest.
The Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp was the most successful example of Non-Violent Direct Action in our country’s history, and an exercise in consciousness raising for an entire generation of women. In 2021, the 40th anniversary year, we consider Greenham’s roots, its personal impact, and the legacy for future generations. Greenham Uncommon is a podcast by Greenham Women Everywhere, a partnership project between Scary Little Girls & the Heroine Collective. Greenham Women Everywhere has interviewed over 100 women who chose to come to Greenham. In this mini series we’ve woven together a web of voices and memories, to shine a light on a history of female protest that has been largely forgotten.
The first episode of our Greenham Uncommon podcast is Free The Geese!
‘Free the Geese’ features Rebecca Mordan, Stefani Ariza, and the testimonies of Greenham Women as taken from the Greenham Women Everywhere Oral Archives.
In this episode, women discuss the characteristics of each gate around the Common, food, veganism, cruise missiles, reclaiming the land, eco-feminism and creative Non-Violent Direct Actions. It features “Individuals drawn together by a sense of personal responsibility to fight against a nuclear nightmare.”
We are the flow, we are the ebb, we are the weavers, we are the web.
