Mercedes grew up in Spain when it was a violent dictatorship and speaks of how women grew up to be submissive. After escaping that and coming to the UK in the late 1970s, she became a member of the CND in St Just and remembers Greenham being a cathartic place for her, as the base represented a history of violence and aggression. She recalls the courage of Greenham Women and how meeting such a wide range of people at Greenham taught her to never pre-judge anyone.
Mercedes was interviewed by Rebecca Mordan in 2019.
